Summer is all about effortless makeup. Don’t just pile it on, opt for a few simple techniques and products.

1/ SUNKISSED SKIN

You don’t have spend hours in the sun to get that bronzed look. NARS Cosmetics makeup artist Diane Kendal used two shades of blush, and glow foundation to achieve the look with makeup. “The beauty inspiration is surfer, beach girl. It’s that look and natural color that someone gets if their skin has been kissed by the sun.” Keep the eyes, and lips simple and instead, play up the cheekbones with blush in pinkish gold hues. To keep it looking natural apply cream blush to the apple of your cheeks and use your fingers to blend toward your temples. Then use a brush to apply a powder blush two shades darker than your skin colour at your hairline, jawline and the sides of your face. Mimic where the sun would tan by also brushing from temple to cheek and on the bridge of your nose.

2/ AU NATUREL

Shift everyday makeup into high gear with a few summer touches. At Jonathan Simkhai, makeup artist Gato imitated the look of a woman “walking for hours in the desert, and has been touched by the sun,” by keeping creamy matte skin, with just a bit of glow highlighting the cheekbones and into the hairline, and the eyelid. Similar looks at Naeem Khan and Opening Ceremony also called for nude lips and a few coats of mascara.

3/ WHITE NAILS

This 90s throwback shade flatters a number of styles from jeans and a tee to ballgown. To keep it modern keep nails short, and choose a shade that’s not pure white. Want a streak-free mani? Opt for a couple of thin coats.

4/ METALLIC EYES

We’ve seen shimmery shades before, but this season copper liquid eyeshadow on the lower lids is the newest trend. Try this for bright, statement eyes: apply mascara to upper and lower lashes, and eyeshadow in a neutral tone to the eyelid, then line undereye only with metallic copper liquid eyeshadow.
