Every corner of this hotel reveals a stylish detail that surprises.
It’s not easy to stand out amongst the cookie cutter hotel crowd these days. Enter Eclectic Hotels’ Great John Street, a former Victorian school house that has been transformed into a stylish boutique townhouse hotel.
The Oyster bar, with chic vintage feel serves afternoon tea as well a deli style menu throughout the day (try the classic fish and chips with mushy peas and fragrantly spiced prawn curry for dinner). The kitchen and mezzanine, punctuated with pops of punchy turquoise and muted blue grey is both inviting and bewitching, with sepia photographs of former pupils of the Victorian school hanging on walls. Rooms too are utterly charming.
The split floor eclectic suite features a dramatic ornamented bed frame, anchored by antique crystal chandelier that hangs in the centre of the bottom floor, and brought to life with lush velvet curtains that frame the large window. The upper floor is dedicated to the bathroom and features two large soaker tubs, twin sinks with walk in shower and wooden floors that evoke a rustic farmhouse vibe.
Incorporating its unique school house history, with quirky design elements and hospitable staff, make for a truly unique stay.
