Overall Impression

After a long-haul flight, unpredictable schedules, missed connections and general stress, the sight of dozens of dancers congregating at your airport hotel for a competition, flitting to and fro, seems, at first glance, like another minor test of patience. Yet, as a testament to this hotel’s courteous, efficient staff, from kitchen to check-in, all guests are attended to with ease. I hardly bat a bleary eye. For me, it’s these kinds of stretched-to-the-hilt experiences that reveal the true bones of a place, and, I’m impressed.

Dining

Mosaic Kitchen Bar Lounge, the hotel’s in-house restaurant offers a nice selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner. While the lunch menu varies, inspiration comes from all over the globe. Clever French bistro-inspired dishes like fennel, herbs, lobster and hint of Pernod lusciously coated and baked with cheese, and served with grilled sourdough sit alongside hearty, comforting Bombay butter chicken, saffron pilaf, naan and pappadum (which could easily be shared amongst two diners).

Guests searching for classics like burgers, pizza, ribs and bowls will be satisfied by the rounded-out selection. There’s also a great bar menu (baked brie en croute is irresistible) to accompany a very well-made cocktail (we recommend the campfire margarita), glass of wine, or spirit-free beverage.

Room

Though a short stay, the feeling of sinking into my SERTA plush top bed is a cozy hug that instantly revives (and makes me untangle from the uncomfortable pretzel I’ve become from hours of airport and plane seating). Casual dozing, plane spotting through the large window overlooking Pearson airport or simply relaxing makes an apt alternative to counting sheep, and I am easily lulled into a restful nap before my evening flight.

Vibe

Guests with a long layover will appreciate the hotels’ convenient location (a short five-minute shuttle to the airport).  As waves of guests trickle in and out the property throughout the day, the swift, hassle-free check-in ensures there’s rarely a lineup.  The well-maintained property has a small, cozy lobby with comfortable seating at the entrance, and is equipped with an indoor and outdoor pool and large fitness centre, so guests can enjoy lifestyle comforts. Plus fifteen meeting rooms means the hotel often operates at a steady pace.
