STYLIST TIP:

3/ A Folk Story
A mix of fairytale, ethereal, and Americana evoke a renewed folk sensibility for fall.
Blends of old and new fabrics, draped silhouettes and unexpected combinations appeared throughout the fall 2018 shows. Floor sweeping maxi dresses worn with chunky knits were seen at Dior, while at Chanel, classic tweed was revitalized with a modern metallic boot. In terms of fabric knits, crochet, patchwork and quilting with suede and shearling for good measure appeared on runways from Libertine, Simone Rocha and Sonya Rykiel to Michael Kors and Louis Vuitton.
At Coach, delicate full length maxi dresses with precious velvet bows paired with suede outerwear and leather handbags to best display the craftsman-like quality of clothing this season. While a nod to American cowboy vibes, with a mix of cozy capes, button-up Western-influenced blouses and leather tassels could be seen at Calvin Klein, Stella Mcartney and Isabel Marant.
The key to avoid veering off-piste into a rehashing of 1970’s hippie? A clever mix of homespun comfort with differing fabric and textures, metallic accessories and of course, laid back attitude.

5/ Polished Perfection
At Louis Vuitton, designer Nicolas Ghesquière paraded models down the runway with their best sci-fi version of Napoleonic era sophistication- black piping detail, cropped jackets, luxurious leather with a mix of both cocoon-like silhouettes and well-tailored blazers and trousers. Versace was playful, showing off well-fit suits, elegant peacoats with pops of colourful plaid and gold accessories, while at Fendi, structured dressing was the theme. If there’s three pieces everyone can add to their wardrobe, it’s a classic wool maxi coat, comfortable heeled leather booties and a doctor-style handbag. Chic wearable style, suitable for the office or date night.
