The rules of winter beauty have changed. Don’t worry CSL has you covered with advice straight from the runways.

1/ Peak Of Chic
Classic tartan gets a new cut in long feminine silhouettes complete with sweet bows at Simone Rocha.

Rule: Invest in a feminine dress in an unexpected pattern.

 2/ Royal Riot
Maybelline New York’s Global Makeup Artist Erin Parsons melded Rock ‘n roll with Marie Antoinette to create a look fit for a queen.

Rule: Want to look like royalty? Daring glittery eyes are the way to go.

 3/ Winter Waves
Beach waves? Been there done that! The newest trend in hair is all about loose, healthy, cascading locks for winter.

While beach waves are quintessentially casual, benefiting from wispy strands, winter waves tend to be more polished. Unlike summer, when salty styling mists give that just-back-from-the-surf volume, winter waves need to withstand dry, cold air that can sap its natural oils. To counter this, apply a hydrating hair mask once a week to lock in moisture.

To get the look, take organic sections, and use a moisture-lock styler to create a slight bend in the hair, keeping it as natural as possible. Spray with hairspray to set the waves as you go. To keep waves bouncy while they cool, affix to head with a bobby pin.  Use your fingers to tousle the waves and add definition with a styling cream.

“It’s all about individuality…The idea is to enhance [a woman’s] natural beauty—for everyone to be the best version of themselves and to feel comfortable in their look,” says Naeemah LaFond, amika’s Global Artistic Director Lead Stylist.

Rule: soft, sexy and uncomplicated hair is no longer just for summer.

4/ Glitter Glam
The math is simple: a shimmering lip plus eyeshadow in metallic grey tones adds up to sizzling drama.

Buxom Metalix Lip Glide, $28.00. Marc Jacobs Beauty See-quins Glam Glitter Eyeshadow, $35.

Rule: Don’t be afraid of metallic shades on both eyes and lips.

5/ Face Oil 2.0
There’s rosehip oil and then there’s rosehip oil. Much of what is on the market today is made from Rosa canina sourced from Turkey and Bulgaria, this one comes from the Andes and is made from Rosa Mosqueta. Rich in essential fatty acids, this oil does not feel greasy and smells divine.

Rule: Embrace lesser known botanical oils.

6/ Two-Tone Lips
Inspired by the ‘90s, Thomas de Kluyver for Maybelline New York created a “throwback lip look.” “It’s a glam version of grunge,” he said of the bold, two-tone effect that makes lips look even fuller.

Choose a moisturizing lip colour and apply to lips, then apply a contrasting colour to the centre of lips. While daring grunge lip colour combinations ruled the runway, shades of pink or coral work well #irl.

Rule: To avoid a looking like a total ‘90s fail, stay away from brown hues, glossy colour and lip liner. Let your lips make the statement and keep the rest of your makeup simple.
