Moldova Wine & Gastronomy
Tour the underground wine cellars of Cricova, 15 km north of Chisinau with impressive underground wine cellars that boasts over 1.3 million rare and vintage wines. Visit Cricova winery, located in the namesake town, the first in the country to produce sparkling wines using the méthode traditionnelle, and try their unique sparkling red, Kodrinskoie-sparkling, made from cabernet sauvignon with notes of velvety black fruit.
Moldova The Capital & Natural Wonders
Chișinău, the capital city, is super walkable and safe, with large parks, a mix of Soviet and modern architecture, creative cafés and a relaxed urban rhythm. Nature lovers will love going on a hike to explore the country’s rolling hills, lakes, gorges and forests that wind through quaint villages and wineries. There are multiple trails, suited for all difficulties so travellers can choose what suits them best and many trails have public transport to start/end points. Springtime (late April – early June) is ideal for spotting wildflowers and for cooler temperatures.

With a complex history, Moldova has rich Slavic, Ottoman and Latin influences. Travellers seeking authentic cultural experience should explore rural areas. In Butuceni in Orheiul Vechi, visitors can learn how to cook traditional meals, like the national dish, Mămăligă, firm polenta served alongside meat, and sour cream while crafty types can get their hands on local crafts like handmade rugs, embroidered clothing, and authentic Thracian-style pottery. Or for the adventure-seeker, get a thrill by kayaking down the Nistru River.
