1/ (AUGHTS) DENIM
Ah! That early Y2K decade that brought us boy bands, ipods and Nickelodeon. It was also an era of all out denim (yes even denim on denim, or, as we like to call it the Canadian tuxedo). They’re skinny, sometimes low-rise, and colourfully funky to channel a casual, relaxed aesthetic. Today’s reinterpretation favours baggier fits and a less literal approach.
2/ SARTORIAL SUITING
Details count and turning classic menswear into feminine silhouettes takes skill. Tailored but not restricting, exuding power but not intimidating, designers used a structured blazer as the foundation, adding feminine touches like a skirt slit in the centre, exaggerated collars, shorts that show off gams and fabrics borrowed from evening wear.
3/ DAYTIME LINGERIE
With a range of cuts that flatter, pulling off a boudoir-inspired ensemble is a matter of sheer confidence. Camisole as blouse, slip as dress and barely-there cover-ups aren’t the only way to make this look work. Consider flirty details like ruffles, a corset-style top, or a peek-a-boo bodysuit. There are many ways to hint at what lies beneath.
4/ CHARTREUSE
Say cheers with a colour inspired by the monastic French cocktail staple. Hues skew from bright yellow to subdued green, but, one thing’s for sure, it perfectly channels the breezy aesthetic of spring and summer. Navy accessories provide a dazzling contrast, or pack for vacay to set against the sea or pool!
5/ LASER CUTS
How does leather become lace, cotton origami and silk sculpture? Why, with a laser, of course! In today’s digital age it’s the go-to for achieving precise, unexpected and intricate details in fabric that not even a couture seamstress could dream of creating.
6/ SHEER DELIGHT
Blurring the line between skin and clothing, daring to accentuate all your movements, grazing every curve, it whispers come hither. Alas, the garment’s sexy slinkiness is frequently an optical illusion – hiding nude coloured fabric underneath its revealing see-through layer. It’s that very magic that makes it wardrobe worthy.
7/ LUXE LEATHER
Bikers beware! Your choice hit-the-road garb, leather, is being reimagined as girl’s club staples: the shiniest trench in slimming black, a belted snakeskin skirtsuit, a bandana top with pleated mini and a diamond quilted set in fruity orange. It’s those very details that elevate the look taking it off the road and right into your closet.
