“I’m actually staying home, getting some cleaning done,” said the grocery employee to us about the upcoming long weekend. Mundane to some, she beamed with excitement about the simple joy that came to her while spending time at home.

Sometimes, the middle of the year can feel, well middle of the year-ish. If you haven’t planned or scheduled a vacation already, you might feel ‘stuck at home’.  Yet, this time can also be an opportunity to just relax and take time to get back to you.

While some opt for lavish European escapes (with months of advance preparation, we assume), others prefer a staycation, lounging in their own backyards tending to the garden, or simply sipping a cold beverage on a warm evening. It can be just the thing we need to reinvigorate us in summer.

You don’t have to plan an expensive overseas trip to the beach (though if you do, we have some stellar picks, below) – visiting a local lake or even sitting near running water in a public garden, listening to the trickle of a stream or fountain can slower your breath and focus your mind on the now.  Engage in a few simple exercises, or reorganize your kitchen for a better everyday flow. Whatever you choose to do (or not), remind yourself that, as with every changing season, enjoy it while you can.

Increase your exercise

Who says that you have to train with intense workouts to see results?  Even small increments can boost your mental and physical well-being.

Escape to the beach

The salty, refreshing ocean air, sunshine providing well-needed Vitamin D, and of course glowing bronzed skin are just a few reasons to hit a beach this summer.  Banana Boat has just released their list of the best 50 beaches in the world, in collaboration with over 750 of the world’s leading travel influencers and professionals.  Here are a few highlights:

#2 Source D’Argent Seychelles

#5 One Foot Island, Cook Islands

#9 Navagio, Greece

#16 McWay, California

#23 Moro, Spain
