A former Calgarian, this ultra-talented makeup artist is a frequent flyer, working with some of Hollywood’s best actresses and the best models in the industry, CSL chats with Hung Vanngo about his travel favourites
What are some of your favourite projects that you have worked on?
My first ID magazine cover shot in London. I got a chance to work with three top supermodels: Eva Herzigova, Claudia Schiffer and Helena Christensen. Those were the supermodels I dreamt [of working with] when I first got into the business. Dreams do come true!
Favourite city to travel to and why?
A year and half ago I had a chance to go back to visit Vietnam after 25 years. I left Vietnam when I was so young, I totally forgot how beautiful it is. My favorite city in Vietnam would be Da Nang, beautiful beach, great food and amazing people.
What propelled you to go from Calgary to a successful career in New York?
I love Calgary but dreamt of doing makeup for high fashion, working with top models and celebrities. New York really is the place to be. I wanted to take a chance.
What three items are always in your luggage?
I always travel with a neck pillow, an iPod with lots of music and EmergenC powder. I do travel heavy. When I travel for work, I bring a few pieces of luggage with makeup and just a small bag of clothes. I use Rimowa and Tumi
Favourite hotel?
I love the Four Seasons Hotel chain – great rooms and amazing service. What I love most about them when I travel for work with my celebrity clients is that the hotel is extremely careful about the privacy and the discretion of my clients.
Most memorable travel moment?
Vietnam. I completely forgot what it was like living in Vietnam and didn’t know what to expect when I went back to visit last year, but so glad I did. There are so many things to do in Vietnam and it’s so beautiful there.
Favourite Style City?
I love Tokyo. Love the vibrancy, and how modern everything is. When I am there, I feel like I am on a different planet.
I can’t live without….
Moisturizer : the key to youthful skin.
