Heidi Vukov has transplanted a slice of Europe with her Croissants Bakery and Bistro – Southern food with French flourishes.
In a three storey business complex with sunny awnings, Heidi Vukov has transplanted a slice of Europe with her Croissants Bakery and Bistro. The food is southern with French flourishes – cakes, cookies, quiche, sandwiches, salads, soups, entrees and even wine.
A native of the northeast, Vukov was fascinated by the cakes she had seen as a child in her father’s native Germany, and opened the restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch, soon after moving to Myrtle Beach. The restaurant recently celebrated its 20th year in business and Vukov has plans to expand with a new venture.
While the restaurant serves both savoury and sweet with everything from crab Benedict to marzipan cakes, CSL has narrowed down 3 of our favourite experiences at Croissants Bakery and Bistro.
#1 Brunch
At brunch on Sundays couples dressed in church clothes dine al fresco on the patio while an indoor Bloody Mary station invites guests to make their own, and paintings by local artists decorate the walls. The staff here is friendly, taking their cue from Vukov who is open and generous, hallmarks of true hospitality. Order the Pennsylvania Dutch style pancakes with their crisp exterior and fluffy interior served in a cast iron skillet or the quiche du jour if you’re hankering for something savoury. You also can’t go wrong with the turkey pretzel club.
#2 Shrimp and Grits
Pimento cheese grits with shrimp in a roasted red pepper sauce. The best I had on this trip!
#3 Affogato
Devoured in mere minutes, this is an any-time-of-the-day treat of house made gelato and coffee.
