Who doesn’t want to wow guests (beyond the food, of course) at their dinner party?  Tablescapes allow hosts to show off their personal style and create a unique ambiance. Bursts of bold colour and design go beyond the traditional and tie the whole dining area together; a great way to add extra panache!

CREATE THE RIGHT TOUCHES

“Add a special touch for each of your guests, place a personalised gift on top of each plate as a ‘name tag’ for each person. Create an exciting centrepiece by mixing fun objects within a floral arrangement, such as crystal flowers or sculptures – do not to mix height levels, this will give rhythm to the look!  Don’t go too high — you still want your guests to be able to talk to each other!” – Sabrina Monteleone-Oeino, designer and founder of Sabrina Monte-Carlo

Liven up a table with a ‘living’ element.  Think outside of the box, instead of a flower bouquet, use a bowl of fresh fruit, place a wreath or scatter a handful of fall leaves.

Evenly space items approximately one inch apart. Give enough space between settings so that seatmates will not knock elbows.

FLATWARE

Set the flatware that will be used during the meal. No more, no less. Forks to the left of the plate, spoon and knife to the right. Wait until dessert when the table has been cleared to set dessert forks and spoon.

GLASSES

Guests will only require one glass for water and another for wine (or soft drink).

DISHES

Uniform, fancy china is so passé.  Have fun with different patterns, mixing different sets of dishware together.  Try a bold colour (see below), and place chargers below plates to add a cohesive structure. Le Creuset Stoneware dinner plates (set of 4) in Caribbean; lecreuset.ca
