The Lowdown

For out-of-towners who want to explore some of the city’s beloved highlights within walking distance.

Overview

Tucked away on a quay overlooking Lake Ontario, the 157 room Radisson Blu Toronto Downtown is without question in a prime location. Harbour views make you forget you’re in the city. It’s more like you’re wading through blue waters alongside water taxis zipping to and fro Centre island, schooners with their tourists cruising aboard and planes ascending from nearby Billy Bishop Airport. At other times, the hotel feels in the centre of all the land-based action.

You’ll see Blue Jays fans returning from Rogers Centre (or Maple Leaf fans going to Scotiabank Arena), foodies with purchases from the St. Lawrence Market, and guests walking to Union Station or the nearby Entertainment District. There’s plenty of shops, restaurants, pubs and attractions nearby.

Background

Formerly the Radisson Admiral Toronto-Harbourfront, the hotel was renovated and reopened in 2021 as Canada’s first Radisson Blu. Part of Silver Hotel Group, its sister properties include The Anndore House and Hotel Victoria Toronto.

Rooms

Stay in one of the coveted lake view rooms and you’ll find endless intrigue from your window while cuddled up in bed, eco-friendly toiletries and a fragrance spritz for your pillow (and for a good night’s sleep). Suites feature fireplaces and telescopes and a small sitting area for taking in the scenery.

The Whole Picture

Just when you begin to become accustomed to the hotel’s spectacular marina vantage point, there’s a surprise. Take the elevator to Lakeview Pool Lounge, the hotel’s rooftop pool, and you’ll be rewarded with closeup views of the CN Tower enhanced with lounging chairs, patio tables and a lush herb and vegetable garden. Underground parking, a small but functional fitness centre, and plenty of meeting space make the hotel easy for visitors to get everything they need.

Drinks and Dining

The View, the hotel’s breakfast restaurant serves delicious and large portions of staples like poutine, waffles and eggs Benedict. Servers Paul and Harry keep the room jovial and entertained while ceiling to floor windows overlooking the lake provide nature’s artwork.

What CSL Loves

Staff are accommodating and polite. When I asked for a microwave, after a red-eye flight left me bleary and famished, it was delivered within minutes. Plus, it came on a trolley (so I did not have to clear space) with thoughtful accoutrements like dinnerware, a recycling bin, and extra kettle. It’s touches like this – efficient, practical, and well-thought-out – that make a difference when you stay here.
