‘Tis the season of statement dressing whether you stay at home, travel to sunnier climes or celebrate with friends and family near a fire.

Black Tie

For a black tie event dazzle with metallics. Pick gold, silver, copper or other hues that are flecked with metallic thread. To make a statement, keep your look monochromatic. In other words keep all your pieces in the same tone – ivory blends well with gold, white with silver and browns with copper. Brighten up a long dress with a stole or shrug. Dazzle with an ornate top and evening bag if you do not want a head-to-toe metallic look.

Visiting Family

When visiting family, keep it simple.  A casual skirt paired with a blouse in neutral tones and lighter fabrics (the house should be warm and cozy) works well with boots or black tights. If you do not want to show off your legs, opt for black leggings instead.

Sun Destination

If you’re off to warmer climes, keep it short and sweet. Go for shorter dresses with embellishment or statement colour. Cocktail dresses work best at night especially for ringing in the New Year abroad.  Leave out jewellry and accessorize with a clutch and make it all about the dress.

With Friends

The perfect way to look chic but relaxed for a get together with friends is the poncho. Try a cable-knit cape or a poncho instead of a coat and keep it relaxed with a pair of black leggings. The metallic shift with bow steps it up a notch.
