A recent survey conducted by American Express found that 59% of travellers are interested in ‘philantourism’, a term coined from the combination of philanthropy and tourism. Philantourism means engaging in tourism to support (financial) need. Visiting a destination recently affected by a disaster or choosing a travel experience from a small, local or indigenous group are examples of how you can participate.
