3 bottles for the perfect summer evening.

Its hours before your dinner party and your mind is swirling with wine options — a zippy New Zealand sauvignon blanc?  California Pinot?  Choosing wine for a number of people can be tricky.  You don’t want to choose anything to niche, which can be polarizing, yet the usual suspects don’t feel special enough for friends.  We’ve chosen 3 budget and food friendly bottles that will equally pair well with grilled meats and seafood and are easy summer sippers on their own, that will keep the festivities going well into the evening.

1/ Argento Reserva Cabernet Franc 2015

With a deep ruby colour, aromas of raspberry and cherry, and hints of spice, and soft tannins, this Mendoza red was made for roast chicken and barbecued meat.

2/ Calera Central Coast Viognier

Aromatic, honeyed, fresh.  This oak barrelled white wine, from California’s central coast is packed with honeysuckle, and melon with a slight sweetness and hint of flintiness.  Great with chicken and vegetarian dishes.

3/ Clos De Los Siete

A seamless blend of mostly Bordeaux grapes Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petit-Verdot and Cabernet Franc, this intense red knows how to please a crowd.  Bold, yet smooth from Argentina, it goes well with lamb skewers.
