What is vermouth?
Made from a wine base, it is infused with botanicals and fortified with unaged brandy.
There are two types of white vermouth: sweet and dry. Sweet (blanc or bianco) examples include Martini & Rossi and dry examples include Dolin Dry or Noilly Prat. Red vermouth is usually sweet and oak barrel aged.
Origins of Vermouth:
Originating in Northern Italy during the late 18th century for medicinal purposes, the drink became a popular aperitif, travelling to other parts of Europe including Spain and France.
